Competition Judge Michael Baynes says: “This image captures the true hardship of life the Arctic. With the passing of one life to sustain another, and the ever-opportunistic gulls waiting for their chance at the remains. The image clarity, composition and subject matter make this a winning image”.
Competition Judge Michael Baynes says: “Timing can be everything, especially when it comes to photographing whales. This photograph works as the whales spout and the reflection of the sunset work together to create stunning parallel lines. The warm colour tones add to the drama of capturing the moment the world’s largest known animal (Blue Whale) takes a breath before return to the depths of the frigid Arctic waters”.
Competition Judge Michael Baynes says: “The textures and colour immediately draws the viewer’s eyes to this image. This image conveys a typically Arctic scene- the gulls, iceberg, glacier, bright blue tones all work together to portray a summer day in the Arctic”.
