AE Expeditions’ Chief Financial Officer, Marcel De Graaf, will be putting his body on the line this June when he’ll be walking more than 100km over 30 hours to raise much-needed funds and awareness for the Black Dog Institute.
Marcel’s local community recently experienced the tragic situation of two young people losing their fight against mental illness, a tragedy that broke the hearts of their families’ and affected the lives of many other people. He thought that he needed to do something and decided to challenge himself to walk 100km solo non-stop. He hopes that his actions will inspire people to donate to the Black Dog Institute.
“I have been involved with small business throughout my professional life and I have seen many people struggling with mental illness. But more important – I have NOT seen people struggling with mental illness. People too often suffer alone. They keep their struggles private from fear of losing their jobs or being stigmatised by their colleagues.
The Black Dog Institute was founded with the aim of understanding, preventing and treating mental illness. They hope to create a world where mental illness is regarded with the same level of concern and seriousness as physical illness…”
